Over two decades of hockey excellence from the heartland of Northern Nigeria
Niger Flickers emerged from the strong hockey culture of Minna and wider Niger State. The club was formally established and sponsored by the Niger State Government through the state's sports administration, quickly becoming a recognised name in national hockey competitions.
Niger Flickers became one of the strongest men's hockey clubs in Nigeria, winning league titles before 2017. In 2016, the club represented Nigeria at the continental club championship and won a bronze medal โ one of the best performances by any Nigerian hockey club at the time.
Niger Flickers represented Nigeria at the African Clubs Hockey Championship in Kenya. Despite not advancing beyond the group stage, the experience underscored the club's standing as Nigeria's foremost club hockey team.
Niger Flickers won the Nigerian Hockey Super League, defeating Police Machine HC 1โ0 in the final. Governor Abubakar Sani Bello received the team in Minna and donated a team bus, approved construction of a modern AstroTurf pitch, and announced a new multipurpose sports complex.
The club again represented Nigeria at continental level, finishing ahead of Police Machine HC in classification matches and maintaining Nigeria's presence among Africa's top hockey clubs.
Niger Flickers remained a regular participant in the Nigeria Hockey Super League and continued to rank among the country's top men's hockey clubs, serving as a flagship sports institution of Niger State.
Niger Flickers competed in the 2025 Nigeria Hockey Super League, demonstrating the club's enduring relevance in Nigerian hockey โ decades after its founding in Minna.
